Office of the Registrar FAQs

The Office of the Registrar, along with the Academic Affairs and Registrar Services (AARS), manages official student records, including academic progress and grades, and liaisons for transcripts, major changes, and schedule adjustments. 

Frequently asked questions have been addressed by the Office of the Registrar's staff. Note: Some of the links require access to U.S. Military Academy (USMA) sharepoint. 

 

For Prospective Cadets

Freshman English, Chemistry, Math, Psychology or Introduction to Computers/Information Technology, and History. There are also courses in Military Science and Physical education.

USMA recognizes high school Advanced Placement (AP) courses as part of the criteria by individual departments for placement or validation of a course.

The Academy recognizes College Board AP test scores along with placement tests in chemistry, English, information technology, history, and mathematics. USMA receives the scores electronically early in June, followed by paper scores.

There is a section on the Cadet Information System where you can list the names and addresses of those you want to receive a copy of your grades. It's your responsibility to enter the information.

The grades will be sent three to five weeks after the term ends.

The Operations and Registrar’s office in Taylor Hall works closely with you and the department on major selection orientation.

Advisors in each department assist cadets at the beginning of their second year of instruction in understanding the requirements necessary to complete their chosen major, inform them about appropriate course sequences and course content, and provide information about graduate opportunities and career opportunities in the U.S. Army using their majors. 

For Cadets

The completed form must have approval from your Company Tactical Officer (TAC), Department Academic Counselor/Company Academic Counselor (DAC/CAC) and Course Director. Form is submitted to AARS.

The completed form must have approval from both the Department Academic Counselor for your major and your proposed additional major. The form is submitted to AARS.

The completed form must have approval from your Company Tactical Officer (TAC), Department Academic Counselor/Company Academic Counselor (DAC/CAC) and Course Director. The form is submitted to AARS.

You will find an Order a Transcript link in the Cadet Information System (CIS) Academics section. Complete the request. However, in the Remarks section, indicate EV letter

The completed form must have approval from both your current and proposed Department Academic Counselor. The form is submitted to AARS.

Speak with your Department Academic Counselor/Company Academic Counselor (DAC/CAC). 

Term-End Exams are only changed to accommodate emergencies. The Company Tactical Officer (TAC) should contact AARS. 

For Graduates

Contact AARS at 845-938-3708. 

Information may be available (depending on the year) in the Red Book. The Red Book is the West Point catalog containing academic curriculum and course descriptions. The name Red Book is derived from the red covers the printed catalog booklets were once bound with. For the most up-to-date information,
