Biography


Major Matthew Clark is from Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania. In 2007 he graduated from Cedarville University and received Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, a minor in Bible, and a minor in Criminal Justice. During his time as a student, Major Clark served in the Ohio National Guard as an infantryman in A Co, 1-148th IN BN. He also competed on Cedarville University's Cross Country and Track teams. In 2017 MAJ Clark graduated from Teachers College, Columbia University with a Master of Arts in Social-Organizational Psychology. In 2018 MAJ Clark completed Master Teacher Program at the Center for Teaching Excellence at West Point.

Major Clark commissioned into the Infantry, and was assigned to Fort Drum, NY with 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division. There he served as Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, and Battalion Logistics Officer (S4) from 2008-2010. During that time he deployed to Iraq.

After completing the Special Forces Qualification Course in 2013, MAJ Clark was assigned to Charlie Company, 4th Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) and served as the Detachment Commander for ODA 5436 until October 2015 and then as Battalion Assistant Operations Officer until May 2016. He deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and to Jordan in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.

Major Clark's military education includes the Airborne Course, Basic Officer Leader Course, Infantry Basic Officer Leader Course, Ranger School, Reconnaissance and Surveillance Leader Course, Airlift Loadplanners Course, Combatives Levels I, II, and III, Maneuver Majors Career Course, Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape Level-C, the Special Forces Qualification Course, the Detachment Leaders Course, the Special Forces Advanced Urban Combat Course, the Jumpmaster Course, the Special Operations Combatives Program level I, and Command and General Staff College. He maintains a proficiency of 1+/1+/1+ in Farsi and 2/2/1+ in Dari.

Major Clark's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Unit Award with one Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO medal, Combat Infantryman's Badge, Special Forces Tab, Ranger Tab, and the Senior Parachutist’s Badge.

Major Clark married his wife, Katie, in 2006. They currently reside in West Point, NY, with their seven-year-old son, Elijah, five-year-old daughter, Karissa and three-year-old daughter Valerie. Major Clark is currently the Assistant Course Director for MX400 Officership at the Simon Center for the Professional Military Ethic. He also teaches PL300 and is involved in several cadet and youth activities to include the Navigators, a team leader for the AWANA kids program, and children’s church teacher at the Post Chapel.
