Intramural sports at West Point are also referred to as "Company Athletics." Company Athletics is more than a recreational release for cadets, it's an educational program designed to develop future Army officers. By design, intramurals cultivate mental toughness and instill a “never quit” attitude as two companies compete on “the fields of friendly strife.” The name “Company Athletics” serves as a reminder that this is an athletics program committed to teaching the Army values, cultivating the warrior ethos, and instilling pride in the military culture.
The Corps of Cadets is divided into four regiments, each containing three battalions of three companies. Each company creates a team for each of the spring and fall sports.

Every company athletic sport plays a series of playoffs that culminate in a championship game, the Brigade Finals. The Brigade Finals are held during a single day after the fall and spring company athletic season as a part of enhancing esprit de corps within the Corps of Cadets. The winning company of the Brigade Finals for each of the 10 intramural sports offered receives the Bankers Association of New York Trophy. The Bankers Trophy has been presented every year at West Point since 1924.
